School garden

We went to the Hamilton East School garden to have a look at what is there and decide where we should plant our vegetables.

We noticed that there needs to be quite a lot of weeding and preparing before we can plant anything. We chose an area and marked it off with some sticks.

We had a big discussion about what we would like to plant in the garden.

Although there were some great suggestions like grapes, watermelons and feijoa trees, we realised we need plants that will grow over the next few months, and that can be planted at this time of year.

We discovered that on the back of a seed packet, it tells you what season you can plant the seeds, depending on where you live!

It also tells you how long it will take for them to germinate and how long till harvesting time.

We then did our own research into the plants we are interested in, there are a couple of links to the left if you are interested.

We made a table in our google drive accounts and put the information in.

Below are some pictures of our first trip to the garden. We also did some sketches of how we would like the garden to look.
